Looking back at 2008
This year is coming to an end. After cleaning up my room and making my new year resolutions, I wanted to review on this past year.
2008 has been a whirlwind year which I spent most of my time messing around in search for a new direction.
With a new school, CCA, friends and even greater commitments, I wouldn't classify this year as a particularly good one.
Along with hundreds of other RVians, I came to NJ. Could have gone across the road with Prelims and appealing back during JAE, but I decided NJ was a better choice, at least I don't have to worry about fitting into the crowd. I have yet to regret that decision, but who knows, maybe, just maybe I would have been better off there.
For better or for worse, I was placed in S01, where many alike, chose to forsake places in the top two JCs. I realized "hey, I am not alone afterall". I think its fair to say that although my class is not as united as some others, we still do enjoy each other's company. This can be seen from the surprizingly high turnout rate for chalet. Also, I made a couple of good friends in class.
Although we are classified as "mugger-class" by some, I don't see what's wrong with completing our homework on time. That's on top of an extremely busy CCA and gatherings with friends mind you.
But I have to say, my biggest regret this year was being led into a false impression/illusion that I will do well because "i am in S01 so how lousy can I get?" and thus not working hard enough. This resulted in ranking among the top few in terms of worst results in class.
Stark contrast with my Upper Sec times, where being among the top few in class doesn't even come close to the term "doing well" w.r.t the rest of the level.
and then there was this thing called "Project Work".
Put in simply, Bad.
I signed up for Chem Olympiad but I wasn't ready to commit myself to it at all.
Ended up with nothing.
CCA-wise, joining Harmoc was another case of "following the crowd" (I need to stop that soon). Initially I was looking for a CCA so I can slack (which was one of the reasons I didn't join shooting) but in the end harmoc was ten times more hiong than I expected. Oh well, at least I can proudly say I once performed in the Esplanade. I guess the motivation for me to go for practice is the bond with thel grp of ppl in 2nd Chromatic.
Also after Promos, I worked out like mad.
Now I am close to clearing Napfa with Silver.
And I still miss 4H. The gathering two weeks ago made me wanting to go back to Upper Sec times even more. The guys are the funniest and craziest people I have ever met. Looking forward to our chalet next week.
Afterwhich, I will be more serious and work hard.
I will make the most of the coming year.
